چکیده

R. R. PORTER I953 This method could therefore be used as a simple and rapid method of insulin assay, measurement of the area under the peak giving the insulin content ofthe sample used. In addition to speed and simplicity this method has an advantage over biological assay in that it appears to be as satisfactory for crude as for pure insulin. It would be equally possible to use this technique for preparative work, as a single step appears to be sufficient to obtain pure insulin from crude material. The maximum weight used with these columns so far has been 150 mg. crude insulin on a 50 g. column, but there is no evidence that this loading may not be raised.

Studies in the Biochemistry of Micro-Organisms

Bracken, Pocker & Raistrick (1954) described the isolation of two nitrogen-containing products from different cultures of Penicillium cyclopium Westling. One of these, previously isolated from Penicillium viridicatum Westling by Cunningham & Freeman (1953) and named viridicatin, C15H11NO2, was shown to be 2,3-dihydroxy-4phenylquinoline or its keto-tautomer (I), by degradative methods and unequi...

Mycotoxin-producing strains of Penicillium viridicatum: classification into subgroups.

Fifty-two isolates of Penicillium viridicatum Westling were divided into three groups based on ability to produce ochratoxin and/or citrinin, color, growth rate, type of growth, odor, and isolation source. Members of group I resemble one of the representative strains of P. viridicatum described in the literature; those belonging to group II differ from group I strains in several characteristics...

OCCURRENCE OF A MYCOTOXIN, OCHRATOXIN A, IN WHEAT AND ISOLATION OF OCHRATOXIN A AND CITRININ PRODUCING STRAINS OF PENICILLIUM VIRIDICATUM Ochratoxin A is a metabolite of Aspergillus ochraceus

Ochratoxin A is a metabolite of Aspergillus ochraceus Wilh. (5) and of Penicillium viridicatum Westling (8). It is highly toxic to rats and ducklings and produces liver and kidney damage (6). Both A. ochraceus and P. viridicatum have been isolated from stored grain, and ochratoxin A itself was recently found in corn (7). The presence of this toxin in rolled wheat used as livestock feed is repor...

Penicillium viridicatum, Penicillium verrucosum, and production of ochratoxin A.

The taxonomy of the important mycotoxigenic species Penicillium viridicatum and P. verrucosum was reviewed to clarify disagreements relating to the three P. viridicatum groups erected by Ciegler and coworkers (A. Ciegler, D. I. Fennell, G. A. Sansing, R. W. Detroy, and G. A. Bennett, Appl. Microbiol. 26:271-278, 1973) and the mycotoxins produced by them. Cultures derived from the types of these...

Production of citrinin by Penicillium viridicatum on country-cured ham.

Seven strains of Penicillium viridicatum isolated from country-cured ham produced citrinin in potato dextrose broth and on country-cured ham. None of the strains produced detectable amounts of citrinin at 10 C. The optimal temperature range for citrinin production was 25 to 30 C.
